The Factors Affecting The Succes In English Proficiency Exams And Possible Contrubitions of The Internet

ABSTRACT
It is a widely known fact that today, language proficiency exams are indispensable parts of our academic life. Especially, those who aim to achieve the objectives in an educational system are in need of declaring and proving that they have a good command of at least one foreign language-most commonly English. English proficiency exams such as FCE, CAE, IELTS and TOEFL are some of the most well-known commercial tests that assess four language skills and language competence of language users. In addition to these exams academicians, state employees and military staff in Turkey can take some exams given by the Student Selection and Placement Center of the Higer Educational Council (O.S.Y.M.), such as KPDS and UDS. These standard tests also have some parts assesing language proficiency similar to those in other commercial tests. The purpose of this experimental study is to examine,with the eyes of a programme designer, the obstacles of the exam takers who cannot be successful enough in the proficiency exams although they have studied English for a long period of time; and to introduce some practical solutions to their problems via internet as well.
