Shortly this book covers various ideas, concepts and philosophies about Web-Based Training.

As a contemporary and efficient way in distance education, Web-Based Training systems deal with open, flexible and distributed learning environments. Design, development and evaluation of open and flexible learning systems is certainly a new experience to many of the trainers and educators related in this field and these learning systems require thouhtful analysis and investigation how to use the Web's potential in concert with instructional design principles and issues important to various dimensions of online learning environments. Since Web-Based Training is so new in the field, none of the author can give a total perspective of it.

In the first section of the book, Web-Based Training and related subjects are discussed to a certain extend. Definitions are made, perspectives on the subject is detailed, advantages and limitations of Web-Based Training; benefits and obstacles to success are discussed in seperate papers by different authors. After this infostructures of Web-Based Training are examined. Glossary of terms in Web-Based Training is the subject of another paper in this subject.

Second section of this book is focused on the design and development perspectives of Web-Based Training. A framework for Web-Based Training (WBT) is put into discussion by the editor of this book in the first paper of this section. Details which are really very important for the effectiveness of WBT is examined and discussed in each paper of this section. Such as; designing instructional templates for Web-Based Training, a practical model for conversational WBT, WBT site design principles, Web-Based instructional methods for corporate training curricula, playing interactive training games on the Web, designing practical Websites, design strategies for Web-Based Training, WBT administration and so on. In thirty-one papers many other details are examined. Main approach of this section is based on this view: Advances in information technology parallel to social changes are creating new paradigms for education and training. These changes have great impact on educational and training systems. Participants certainly requýre rich learning environments supprted by well-designed and well-planned resources. The expectation is on-demand, any-time/anywhere high-quality instruction with good support services which is vital in such a system. To stay in such a competitive market, providers of education and training should develop more efficient and effective learning systems to meet society's needs and to overcome the problems of on-going differences of changing societies. Therefore we can say there is a great demand "for affordable, efficient, easily accessible, open, flexible, well-designed, learner-centered, distributed and facilitated learning environments". Universities, corporations and governmental institutions worldwide are using Web to deliver instruction and training by higher ratios day by day. At all levels of these institutions students and employees are being encouraged to participate in online learning activities.

In the third section of this book implementation and evaluation perspectives of Web-Based Training are examined and discussed in twenty-three papers. In these papers many researchers pointed out many vital points of WBT to improve and contribute to the richness and effectiveness of it. For instance copyright issues to solve the legal problems that arouses or may arouse in the future are pointed out. Since WBT is important and the materials can be re-used it must be stored and accessed whenever the participants want in digital libraries. This problem and its aspects is the subject of one paper. The answer or the possible answer of the question of the future of Web-Based Training is examined in another paper. Supporting adult-learners by WBT, use of WBT in teacher-preparation training programs, Web-Based Training for educators, evaluation of the structure of WBT, cost-analysis of WBT, governmental policies about WBT or if there is not one, what might be the principles of these policies and other related subjects are the subjects of the papers in this section.

As a conclusion, this book has met the aim of generating undersdanding and sharing knowledge and perspectives on Web-Based Training as an efficient and effective instrument in distance learning.Different point of views and discussions makes it a book of reference for corporations, govermental and educational institutions and learners. In addition to these, this book is highly informative and interesting.
